Hosting Taraweeh as a Private Group: what approval involves

The checks a Private Group completes before it can publish a listing or invite a Hafiz, what Huffaz see on your profile, and how to avoid delays.

A Hafiz who accepts a Private Group’s booking may lead Taraweeh in a home or a shared space and stay with people they have never met. That is why Private Groups are checked more thoroughly than mosques, and why the checks have to be complete before a Private Group can recruit.

The four requirements

  1. The organiser’s ID is verified.
  2. The group’s address is verified.
  3. At least one reference is approved by an administrator. This can be a letter from a nearby mosque, a recommendation from a scholar or Imam, an endorsement from a community leader, or a recommendation from an existing verified user.
  4. An administrator approves the group.

Until all four are in place, the database refuses to publish an Open listing or re-open one, and invitations are blocked. You can still build your profile and search and view Huffaz. A banner explains that approval is needed before you can invite.

What Huffaz see

  • Three verification ticks: ID verified, address verified and reference approved.
  • A trust score, based on ID verification, references, completed Ramadan history, reviews and successful bookings.
  • Your group details: group type, approximate attendance, prayer space type, whether it is a men-only or family setting, and the facilities you offer.
  • Your location as an approximate area only, and only if you choose to appear on the map.

Safety photos

Upload a photo of the prayer space and, if you offer a room, a photo of the accommodation. The photos are stored privately and shown only to signed-in users. Missing photos don’t stop you publishing, but your profile is marked incomplete, and Huffaz will reasonably want to see where they would pray and sleep.

Avoiding delays

  • Start verification months before Ramadan. Administrators review each item by hand.
  • Line up your reference early. Ask your local mosque or Imam before you register.
  • If an item is rejected, read the reason and resubmit.

If approval is later withdrawn, your listings that are already Open stay open, but you cannot publish new ones or re-open old ones.
