Should you turn on ‘Verified Huffaz only’?

What the Verified Huffaz only preference changes for your listings and invitations, what it leaves alone, and the trade-off to weigh before switching it on.

By default, any Hafiz with a verified email address can apply to your listings, and you can invite any Hafiz. Mosques and Private Groups can narrow that with one switch in Settings → Preferences: ‘Only accept applications from, and invite, Verified Huffaz’. It is off unless you turn it on.

What the badge means

A Hafiz has the Verified Hafiz badge when an administrator has approved their government ID, a selfie compared with that ID by a person, their Hifz completion certificate and any other credential they submitted. If any item is pending or rejected, the badge is not shown.

What changes when it is on

  • Only Huffaz with the badge can apply to your listings. This is enforced by the database, not just hidden in the app.
  • On an unverified Hafiz’s profile, your Invite button is disabled, with an explanation.
  • An unverified Hafiz who opens your listing sees a notice that you only accept Verified Huffaz, with a link to complete verification.
  • Your listings still appear in search and on the map for everyone.

What doesn’t change

Applications and invitations that already exist carry on as normal. This includes matches with a Hafiz who later loses the badge. The switch only applies to new matches.

The trade-off

The switch gives you certainty about identity and credentials, but you will hear from fewer Huffaz. Verification takes time, so early in the season some capable Huffaz may still be waiting for their documents to be reviewed. Questions that may help you decide:

  • Will the Hafiz stay in a home or shared accommodation you provide? Identity checks may matter more to you.
  • Will you meet and hear every candidate in person before offering? You may be comfortable doing your own checks.
  • Is your listing urgent? A wider pool can matter more than a narrower one.

You can change the setting on the same page at any time, for example turning it on once you have enough applications to choose from.
